Integrative and IFS Supervision
Having originally trained in integrative counselling, I went on to qualify as an IFS therapist in 2018–19, training to Level 3 with Richard Schwartz, Frank Anderson and Cece Sykes. I then went on to take both a Certificate and Diploma in Clinical Supervision with the UKCP College of the Northern Guild, which allowed me to integrate all my training and begin to see where I might be of use to other counsellors and therapists reflecting on their own work.
As a supervisor, I aim to provide a safe, supportive and collaborative environment in which curiosity and reflection can flourish. As we work, I will encourage you to become really interested in the parts of you that are reacting to clients, and potentially aiding or getting in the way of the work. Some parts bring useful intuitions, while others may have a habit of tuning us out or becoming momentarily resentful – my approach is 'all parts welcome' - let's really get to know which parts of you and your clients are being activated!
At the same time, your developmental needs as a counsellor will also be in my mind, and I will encourage you to fully open up to your learning edges and areas of curiosity. There is always a complex set of dynamics at play, and a myriad of reactions happening, which we can meet without judgement or blame. There's an IFS saying that 'what's in the way IS the way', and through this perspective, everything that happens in you or your client shows us the blocking points and the way forward. As I'm part of the dynamic when we meet, I undertake to always remain responsible for my own parts, and will readily welcome feedback on anything that I might be doing that's unhelpful or confusing, so we may sometimes usefully explore the dynamic between us. Everything is information.
